Estava sozinho, e quando me
no mar.
Guiado
pelo instinto, procurei outro caminho. (excerto do livro) |
For some of these beaches,
one descends with the assistance of ropes that the
fishermen have affixed there. Other times, one has to
jump. The danger of an accident is so imminent in some
places that one has to pass slowly and carefully,
occasionally at dozens of meters over a turbulent sea. I
once traveled these passages for hours in order to arrive
at Aroeira at sunset, staying there to photograph that
mirror of water over the plane of sand until there was no
more light (page 31). I was alone, and before I realized,
it was already quite dark. I looked for a way out towards
the north, passing under an arch of rock. The inlet was
flanked by a steep cliff that ended in the sea. Hanging
on this, I spied a thick rope with knots in it, but it
didnt reach to the level of the beach. I promptly
began scaling the cliff with the heavy sack of
photographic equipment across my shoulder and the tripod
tied to it. After reaching the rope, I began to climb
with its help, but the rock was becoming more steep and
smooth. As the night was becoming darker, and I
couldnt see the projections in the rock that would
support my feet, I retreated to the beach. To return by
the path that had taken me there was out of the question
since the sea was already rising and some points that I
had passed were already submerged. Guided by instinct, I
looked for another path, and I found one. (excerpt from the book) |
